The Reality of Getting Bad Credit Student Loans Without A Cosigner

Most college students who are still undergrads haven’t yet built up a significant credit history, and are not yet earning a full-time income. Because of this, they don’t have the ability to get approved for some of the better and more popular consumer loans that are on the market. Most people don’t think of private student loans as consumer loans, but in essence they are due to the fact that they are based off of a borrower’s credit profile, and are made by private lenders without much regulation. Because most students don’t have a significant credit history, they are unable to get approved for the vast majority of private student loans that are on the market without the help of a credit-worthy cosigner. A cosigner can assist a student borrower when trying to get approved for a private student loan because they can provide their credit information to show the lender, and if their credentials are good enough the lender will overlook the fact that the student does not have a substantial credit history.

There isn’t much leeway when it comes to this, and to get approved for a private student loan the student borrower is going to need to have good credit or a cosigner without exception. The existence of bad credit student loans without a cosigner needed or required are thus not really present on the market, and to get a no cosigner private student loan you are going to have to have good credit on an independent basis. That pretty-much sums up the reality of getting private student loans without cosigner, and while this prevents a great number of students from obtaining private college loans without a cosigner, there are still other options if you are on the market for bad credit student loans without a cosigner.

This is because there are other kinds of student loans that aren’t considered to be private student loans, and are instead guaranteed by the federal government, and are thus considered to be federal student loans. Federal student loans are not based off of credit like private loans are, and are instead based off of other kinds of factors such as need. This makes virtually all college students that are attending an accredited four-year university on a full-time basis eligible to receive this type of funding, and the student’s credit situation and ability to obtain a cosigner hardly ever becomes an issue. This makes federal loans the real bad credit no cosigner student loans, and in combination with their better application requirements for students, they are actually better student loans to have for a number of other reasons. Federal college loans typically have a lower interest rate than private loans, as well as more flexible repayment options that can make paying back these kinds of student loans a much less stressful process. For this reason it is always better to consider these kinds of student loans without cosigner first before any sort of private loan funding, and you can do this by filling out a FAFSA application.
